Message from the Founder

My Name is Nana Kwabena Bempong and I am 11 years old.  I founded Bempong Foundation with the assistance of a group of committed volunteers when I was 8 years old. I am in Grade 6 at Ceaderview Middle School in Barhaven. I love soccer and helping out.

Bempong Foundation is my very small way of helping orphaned kids who struggling with the basic things of life.  In 2007-08, we raised over $10,000 to provide school materials for children in Rwanda.  This year we are raising funds for children in Rwanda.  I hope that you would contribute generously to our fundraising drive.

Welcome to Bempong Foundation

ABOUT
Following the desire of 12-year old Nana Kwabena Bempong to do more for his community, Bempong Foundation was founded in 2005 in Ottawa by a group of committed volunteers.  Bempong Foundation is a Canadian non-governmental charitable organization whose aim is to assist children affected by war and HIV/AIDS worldwide to build bright futures for themselves and their communities.

FOCUS ON YOUTH AND EDUCATION
We partner with communities to provide supplies (computers, software, textbooks) for schools and orphanages with children affected by war and HIV/AIDS. Our objective is to promote educational and learning opportunities.

In 2007/2008, Bempong Foundation partnered with Humura, an Association of Rwandan Genocide survivors in Ottawa and the Association of Genocide Widows (AVEGA) in Kigali, Rwanda to provide educational supplies for schools in that country. Bempong Foundation has an agency agreement with AVEGA.

In May 2009, Bempong Foundation completed it's first mission when it delivered school  supplies to Ntrama Primary School in Rwanda.

OUR FIRST EVENT
Bempong Foundation’s inaugural event was held on December 6, 2007 at the Hellenic Banquet Centre in Ottawa. The gala dinner was attended by 125 people and raised a total of $10,000 for youth education in Rwanda. The evening included singing, dancing and performances by the Burundi Dancers.

The dinner featured cultural entertainment and a live and silent auction. Items up for grabs included dinners with Rwandan Ambassador Edda Mukabagwiza, Lesotho High Commissioner Motseoa Senyane and South African High Commissioner Abraham Nkomo.

The next gala evening will be held on April 21, 2010 at the University of Ottawa Tabaret Hall.

OUR SECOND EVENT
Bempong Foundation held a musical evening on Thursday September 27, 2008 at the Rainbow Bistro in Ottawa's By-ward Market. The event raised over $1,000 and included live performances by jazz vocalist Roxanne Goodman and the multi-talented Chairman George. All of the money raised was added to the funds destined for school supplies in Rwanda.

OUR THIRD EVENT

On Wednesday April 21, 2010, Bempong Foundation held a dinner and musical event at the University of Ottawa's Tabaret Hall. The event was attended by more than 125 people and $10,000 was raised for the upgrading of Ntarama Primary School in Rwanda. The evening was hosted by Lawrence Greenspon and Sarah Onyango. The keynote speaker was the Honourable David Kilgour. Mr. Eric Rutsindintwarane, First Secretary of the Rwandan High Commission spoke at the event. The evening was highlighted by memorable musical performances from Roxanne Goodman and the Big Soul Choir and Chinese-Greek Canadian sensation Chairman George.
